Laughter is the best medicine. The responsibility and seriousness of life can weigh you down, but finding a way to add a healthy dose of amusement into your daily routine can make a world of difference. Keep reading for 10 places to find humor in your everyday life.

  1. Children

To start, kids lack the same verbal filters that prevent adults from saying exactly what we think. Second, when you are young, you’re in an experimentation phase. Whether that means trying new foods, learning new dances, or learning to pronounce complex words, the act of trying is always going to produce telling facial expressions, out of the box approaches and unusual reactions; all of which are funny.

  1. Animals

Animals are cute, cuddly and loving, but they are also funny. Most pets have stumbled upon an endless list of ways to make the humans around them smile. If you don’t have pets of your own, don’t fret, the internet is stocked full of videos of comedic animals for your laughing pleasure.

  1. People in Service or Hospitality Industries

Those who serve the public are bound the have stories upon stories about their extreme cases. Teachers, nurses, and waiters are just a few groups of professionals who spend their days tending to others. If you know people who work or volunteer, in either the hospitality or service industry, ask them for a funny story; they won’t let you down.

The internet is rarely defeated when it comes to humor. With a plethora of memes, gifs, and viral videos, you won’t have to dig deep to find something that tickles your funny bone.

  1. Strangers (People Watching)

“People watching” sounds uneventful, right? Wrong! Strangers can be a faithful source of light-hearted comedic relief. Try sitting in a mall, cafeteria, or park and taking a few quiet minutes to observe. There are a few reliable scenarios that tend to produce the best results: parents with younger kids, dog walkers, talkative couples, and people who are on the job (but would rather not be).

  1. Older Generations

People who are more seasoned in life are known for sharing their feelings with little restraint. They are also likely to have fun stories about their younger days. Whether the conversation starts with “back in my day… ” Or “you kids today always… ”, you will be glad that you took the time to allow a senior to make your day with their honest humor.

  1. Friends (Inside Jokes)

Undoubtedly, friends (and family) have spent extended amounts of time with you, which has in turn created shared memories. Those memories lead to inside jokes and sessions of reminiscing that can really brighten your day. If you are in need of a few extra laughs, consider spending more time with the people who know you best.

  1. Books/Comics

Many people have unintentionally skipped over the comedic sector of the author world. Once you discover the kind of writers who tell stories humorously, you’ll be disappointed that you didn’t seek them out sooner. If books are too time consuming, relive your younger days by pulling the comic section from the daily newspaper.

  1. Television

Televised entertainment is a popular comedic go-to. Most people already have a favorite funny show in mind, but I’ll share a few different types just in case you want to tune into something new. Laughs can be found in: late night shows, satirical news, parodies, comedy specials, improv series, and sketch shows.

  1. Yourself
